Originally trained as a laboratory technician, Aase Krenk later became a self-taught ceramic artist.
Since 1979, she has worked from her own studio, most recently in Ødsted near Vejle. She creates art in both stoneware and porcelain and also works with RAKU, the traditional Japanese firing technique known for its distinctive crackled glazes and organic surface effects.
Krenk has exhibited extensively in Denmark and internationally, including in Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Japan.

About the Artwork
These two reliefs, with their associations with stone, air, and water, reflect Nyborg Strand's location on the shores of Storebælt. They were created using the RAKU firing technique.
In simple terms, the process involves placing the glazed ceramic piece into a red-hot kiln (750–850°C) until the glaze melts and flows. The piece is then removed while still glowing and allowed to cool, creating the distinctive surface effects for which RAKU is known.
The word RAKU is commonly associated with enjoyment, ease, tranquillity, and happiness.
