Art Collection
The art at Nyborg Strand is more than decoration. It’s part of the experience when you visit us.
You’ll find it throughout the hotel: in the hallways, meeting rooms, restaurants, and the landscape surrounding the hotel. The collection includes both contemporary works and pieces with historical significance, bold expressions and quiet moments - all reflecting people, places, and ideas.
Each work has been carefully selected. Some for their artistic quality, others because of their close connection to Nyborg Strand as both a historic meeting place and a modern conference hotel. Together, they share a common purpose: to spark curiosity, encourage conversation, and invite reflection on the human experience and the values that have shaped us for more than 125 years.

"Poul Anker Bech's work is very special to me"
For many years, Nyborg Strand have had its own small art committee, which has an important role in building the hotel's art collection. The committee consists of art historian and Director of Randers Art Museum, Lise Jeppesen, and theologian and former Nyborg Strand board member, Bent Martinsen.
Bent Martinsen, in particular, has helped preserve and share the stories behind the artworks - explaining why these artists and pieces became part of the collection at Nyborg Strand, and what they have meant, and continue to mean, to the hotel.
As part of a recent review of the collection, we asked Bent Martinsen if he had a personal favourite. He did:
"I'm very proud to have helped bring Poul Anker Bech's work to Nyborg Strand. It was an incredibly rewarding process to create these three large art pieces, and along the way I felt I got to know the person behind the artist. That has given me a special connection to the artworks and a deeper understanding of them. I'm delighted with where they are displayed, right at the heart of the hotel, where so many guests pass by every day. And I'm genuinely proud whenever I see people stop, take their time, and really look at them. That's exactly what I had hoped for."
Bent Martinsen shares his thoughts on how to experience art and offers a few simple tips for approaching an artwork:
1) Start by taking in the artwork as a whole, then notice the details.
2) Think about the subject or motive.
3) Look at the composition: the foreground, middle ground, and background.
4) Notice the contrasts in the work, such as light and shadow, or life and death.
5) Reflect on what the artist might have wanted to express through the subject, mood, and different elements.
It's also worth remembering that a work of art is often the result of many hours of work. In some cases, the creative process can take years.
At the same time, art is a personal experience. Every viewer brings their own perspective, and the same artwork can speak differently to different people.
