Christian Rosing was born in Nuuk, (formerly Godthåb), Greenland. Since his school years, he has been engaged in creative pursuits, and his artistic practice spans a wide range of disciplines. He works with drawing, painting in both oil and watercolour, scenic painting, and woodcarving. He also carves soapstone, bone, and whale tooth, works in granite and marble, and creates sculptures in brass and bronze.
Rosing is self-taught and considers himself the only Greenlandic artist working in granite. Although he rarely exhibits, his art pieces and scupltures can be found in both Greenland and Denmark. He previously created a polar bear's head in Swedish marble, but the sculpture at Hotel Nyborg Strand is his first work in granite.

About the Artwork
In Greenland, the polar bear is a symbol of strength and power. Christian Rosing captured this in Svømmende Isbjørn, a sculpture he chose to carve in granite. The work was created in Nyborg during the summer of 1991.
