Jørgen Glud

Jørgen Glud (1913–2003)

Jørgen Glud was a versatile Danish artist whose work spanned painting, drawing, and ceramics. He studied drawing at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen from 1933 to 1936, where he developed the strong sense of form and distinctive visual language that would characterise his work throughout his career.

Over the years, Glud worked as both a painter and illustrator, and from 1951 onwards also as a ceramic artist. Alongside his artistic practice, he created illustrations for children's songbooks published by Musikhøjskolens Forlag (the Danish School of Music Press) in Egtved, demonstrating his ability to combine visual clarity with storytelling and a sense of rhythm.

Glud exhibited widely throughout his career. His work was shown at the Artists' Autumn Exhibition, as well as in exhibitions in Skagen and Odense. He also became well known for his ceramic wall installations, which were commissioned for numerous public and private buildings. It is this aspect of his work that is represented here at Nyborg Strand.

Jørgen Glud's artistic career was defined by outstanding craftsmanship and a remarkable understanding of different materials, establishing him as an important figure in the artistic community of Jutland during the 20th century.
