Malene Landgreen is a Danish visual artist known for her distinctive abstract style, in which simple geometric forms and fields of colour create rhythmic and atmospheric compositions. Her works are characterised by clear structures, precise lines, and a carefully considered use of colour that balances formal order with an intuitive, sensory quality.
Landgreen often works in dialogue with architecture and the surrounding space, giving her art a strong site-specific dimension. The proportions of buildings, the interplay of lines, and the changing qualities of light all play an important role in the construction of her works. Living and working near Storebælt has also influenced her artistic practice. The expansive views across the water, the horizon, and the ever-changing light are translated into fields of colour, rhythmic patterns and structures that evoke spatial mappings and abstract landscapes.

About the Artwork
This site-specific installation draws inspiration from the maritime setting and the atmosphere of summer by the sea, with references to the beach, sunshine, parasols, and beach balls. Coloured mirrored strips mounted on the brick walls evoke the shimmering reflections of sunlight or moonlight on the surface of the water.
The ambition was to create a unified artistic environment within Glassalen. Originally, the vision extended beyond the artwork itself: the curtains and chairs were also intended to share the same colour palette, creating a fully integrated space.
The circular forms in the artwork are inspired by the beach balls found outside the building.

As part of Malene Landgreen's decoration of Glassalen, she conceived the idea of installing mirrored elements that capture the changing light and movement of the sea. In this way, the presence of the water can still be experienced, even when facing away from it. The mirrors draw the surrounding landscape into the room, creating a dynamic dialogue with the solid structure of the brick walls.
