Ole Skovsbøll

Ole Skovsbøll is a self-taught artist based in Nyborg. He has made a significant contribution to the town's cultural life and was one of the founders of what became known as the Nyborg Art Workshop (Nyborg kunstværksted).

One of his best-known works - and something of a landmark at Nyborg Strand - is the group of beach balls on the beach. The installation consists of painted spherical fibreglass sculptures made from old oil tanks.

The beach balls were created in 1991 for the international art festival S.O.F.A., which focused on art in public spaces. Although never intended as a permanent installation, the beach balls proved so popular with both local residents and visitors that they remained.

In later years, Skovsbøll's work has become more abstract, a development reflected in the two other artworks by him that are part of the collection at Nyborg Strand.
