Viera Collaro was born in Bratislava, Slovakia, in 1946. She studied at the University of Michigan, USA from 1963 to 1968 and again from 1969 to 1971. Between 1968 and 1969, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Denmark. From 1971 to 1975, she continued her education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
Throughout her career, Collaro has received numerous grants and awards, including the Danish Arts Foundation's three-year working grant (1984), the Vilhelm Pacht Art Grant (1998), an award from the Danish Arts Foundation (2001), a grant from the Sophus Foundation (2002) and a lifelong grant from the Danish Arts Foundation (2006).
She has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions throughout Denmark, as well as in Gothenburg, Hamburg and Cologne.
