As a large conference hotel, Nyborg Strand welcomes many guests every year. This makes the way we use energy, water, food and materials an important part of our day-to-day operations. Our ESG work therefore focuses on specific measures relating to the environment, our workplace and the communities around us.
In our kitchens, we work with seasonal ingredients and source many of our products from producers in Denmark, including several suppliers from Funen and the local area. Our menus include a wide selection of vegetable-based dishes, and we work to reduce food waste through careful purchasing, stock management and the use of surplus ingredients in new dishes whenever food safety allows. Organic kitchen waste is separated and sent to a biogas facility.
Across the hotel, we have implemented measures such as intelligent lighting, temperature control and more energy-efficient circulation pumps. We sort waste into 11 fractions and monitor selected waste streams to improve our understanding of where waste occurs. Through Tork PaperCircle®, used paper hand towels from the hotel are collected separately and recycled into new paper products.
Nyborg Strand is Green Key certified. This means that our operations are assessed against published criteria covering areas such as environmental management, energy, water, waste, procurement and staff involvement. The certification includes documented evidence and regular external assessments. It does not mean that our operations have no environmental impact, but it provides a framework for our continued work within the areas covered by the programme.
Our work also includes social responsibility. We aim to provide an inclusive workplace with opportunities for learning and development for people with different backgrounds and circumstances. Through our partnership with Kirkens Korshær, a Danish social welfare organisation, we support initiatives for people and families in vulnerable situations. This includes an annual four-day free summer camp for more than 70 families as well as free coffee to Kirkens Korshær’s social cafés and homeless shelters across Funen.
These initiatives represent some of the practical steps we have taken. We continue to monitor our activities, improve our data and identify areas where changes can be made.
